There is a common misconception in society that guys don’t have insecurities. They don’t care about their looks, how they appear and what other people think of them. They certainly never worry about how much they weigh and signs of ageing, they laugh them off. Or, perhaps, it’s best to think of it as a stereotype of women. We often think of women as being more insecure and vain than men. It’s easy to make this assumption because guys don’t wear high heels, unless you’re Tom Cruise. And guys don’t wear makeup unless, well, you’re currently trapped in the eighties. But the fact is that guys handle insecurities differently. They hide them and pretend they don’t exist. Men and women aren’t as different as we’d like to imagine. Guys do watch their weight; they do worry about whether they are sexually attractive and they worry about these little things a lot. With that in mind. Here are some of the biggest insecurities that are constantly on the mind of men. On this post, we’re also going to look at ways to handle the insecurities you won’t even admit you have.
You may think that it’s only women who dye their hair, but you’d be wrong. Guys are prone to buying hair dye as well. They too worry about one of the most common signs of ageing. But do we need too? Many women will admit that they find grey hair on men distinguishing. It makes them stands out and shows that they have wisdom of a few years on their belt. Guys are lucky because they don’t have the stigma of old age attached to these types of changes. If you want proof of this, look at George Clooney. George Clooney is still considered a sex symbol and his hair has been greying for quite some time. But to the best of our knowledge, he’s never dyed it. He doesn’t need to. He’s owning that look and you could too. Or, you could buy hair dye and hide it. It’s your choice. Just try not to freak out when you find your first grey hair. Remember, worrying about grey hair is more likely to change your hair colour faster. As well as this, it’s something we’ll all face eventually. Very few people have thick, colourful locks in their seventies, without a little help.
What’s your biggest fear as a guy when you turn thirty? Probably that you’re going to start losing your hair. It’s not a completely unfounded worry either. By the age of thirty-five, two-thirds of men will start to lose their hair or show signs of balding. But it’s important to be realistic here. First, as soon as you read that statistic, you’re going to notice something. You might run your fingers through your hair and find, oh dear, there’s a few loose strands on your fingers. Don’t panic, we’ve just drawn attention to something that was already happening and you hadn’t noticed. On average guys lose about hundred strands of hair per day. This is a natural occurrence similar to the shedding of skin. It doesn’t mean that you’re going bald. But again, thinking you are could cause your hair to fall out, so stop worrying about it. You only need to worry about thinning hair if it’s falling out in clumps. Then, there might be a problem. Although this can usually be resolved using hair treatment chemicals. Here is a fact that many people probably don’t realise. Ben Affleck has worn a wig in almost every film he’s been in since the late nighties. Losing your hair is something that happens to most guys.
If you do find yourself going bald, then there is another option you can consider. You can get a hair transplant. A hair transplant will give you more cuticles, making more hair grow on your head. The cost of a hair transplant is quite reasonable if you look into it and compare prices. If you want a celebrity example of a guy, who’s had a hair transplant have a look at John Travolta. It’s almost difficult to tell but close up pictures show he has had work on his hair.
Of course, another possibility is to once again own it. There are plenty of celebrities who have gone bald and are still seen as sex symbols. The classic example is, of course, Jason Statham. If you think you can’t still look sexy bald, just remember Mr Statham is dating Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. She’s a supermodel and happens to be over ten years younger than him!
Middle Age Spread
There comes a time in a guys life where their body starts to change. It usually happens around middle age, but if you don’t look after yourself, you can see the effects a little sooner. You start to put on more weight and you develop a beer belly. It should be noted that you don’t have to be fat to develop a beer belly. The pot belly is often the sign of bad posture. It can be fixed by straightening your back when you walk and sucking in your stomach. If you do this often enough, it will eventually become your natural posture. However, it can’t be disputed that middle age spread is also caused by a lack of exercise.
This commonly occurs when you start to settle down and have kids. Between work and being a dad you no longer have time to hit the gym regularly and your body starts to show the effect. Again, it’s important to remember that a lot of older celebs now have what is commonly referred to as dad bod. They’re still in good shape but their body is a little more rounded though just as toned. Both Vin Diesel and Leonardo Dicaprio have been described as having this type of figure. At a certain age, this is the type of physique you should be aiming for. To achieve this, you just need to make sure you’re keeping up a quick but constant exercise routine. You should try and complete a few sets of situps and pushups each morning. By doing this, as long as you don’t eat too much junk you will stay in good shape.
We know many guys feels insecure about their body. Either they are too fat or too thin. They think they need to lose weight or build some muscle. But you have to realise that sometimes your genetics are against you. For instance, some people have genetics that don’t allow them to put on any weight. On the plus side, this means they’ll never get fat but it also makes building muscle difficult. They’ll always have a figure that looks wiry. Alternately, you get guys who struggle to lose weight no matter how hard they try. But they can easily build muscle by burning excess fat. To solve these issues you need to change your metabolism and the only way to do this is by completely altering your diet.
Does size matter? Well it’s the age old question isn’t it? Do women prefer guys who are tall and should you worry if you’re missing a few inches? First, it’s important to be realistic. If you do some research, you might find that the average height is significantly lower than you’ve been led to believe. You can’t trust all the pictures you see of men online when you investigate height. Secondly, you need to remember that while size is important, it isn’t everything. For instance, you may have an athlete who is only just over five feet tall. But if he has the stamina to race a marathon, he’s still a champion. It’s also important to realise that you are not alone. At some point, every guy will get the metre stick out and see if they measure up. But the fact is that just by the law of averages, you’re probably in the green zone so try not to worry about it too much. And remember, if you do feel subconscious about your height, there are other ways to impress a woman. As well as this there are ways to encourage growth for guys that you can find online. No, we’re not talking about the spam popup ads you’ll occasionally see. These are real home remedies that actually work.
Finally, there will come a time in life when you can’t perform as well as you used to. Either you can’t lift as much at the gym or you’re not running as far. You might even have trouble getting up and getting started. Again, it’s important to realise that this is something guys often experience when they grow older but there are solutions. Firstly, if you’re worried about this, you can speak to your doctor. They may be able to offer you medicine that can give you a new lease on life. You may also want to look into natural supplements to increase energy. There are plenty of natural foods and substances that increase your ability to perform.
We hope we have shed some light on the insecurities most guys like to keep in the dark. Remember, if you are worried about any of these issues, it is perfectly natural. And most, are just a fact of life.
